The Formnext tradeshow held in Frankfurt (Germany) from 14 to 17 November 2017 is the opportunity for Arkema to announce a development partnership in high temperature powders with EOS, pioneer and innovator of additive manufacturing solutions, and showcase its wide range of 3D printing solutions.
Arkema Inc. will present its Kynar 500® FSF® and Kynar Aquatec® polyvinylidene fluoride resins used in high-performance coatings, along with Bostik’s hurricane-resistant adhesive products, at METALCON 2017, to be held October 18–21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Arkema will increase fluoropolymer (Kynar® PVDF) capacity at its Calvert City plant in the United States by some 20%. The expansion is fueled by strong demand in the new energies and water management markets as well as in more traditional applications (chemical process industry and high performance cables). In line with the strategy presented at its recent Capital Markets Day, this investment, scheduled to start mid-2018, further supports Arkema’s ambition to accelerate the development of its advanced materials, one of the key pillars of its future growth.
Arkema’s Technical Polymers business has published new Guide Specifications on its field-applied
fluoropolymer coatings for cool roof and façade restoration applications. The two guide documents
are prepared according to the Construction Specifier Institute’s (CSI) SectionFormat® to make selection
and specification of high-performance Kynar Aquatec® PVDF emulsion–based architectural coatings
The new Neophil™ PVDF hollow fiber ultrafiltration membranes have been granted NSF/ANSI 61 certification for drinking water production. This certification will speed up the commercial development of this membrane technology developed jointly by Arkema and Polymem in the global drinking water market growing by 10 % yearly.
Eager to sustain its customers’ strong growth, in particular in automotive, 3D-printing, and in consumer goods markets such as sports and electronics, Arkema announces an investment plan of some 300 million euros over five years in the biosourced polyamide 11 chain. This major investment will enable the Group to increase by 50% its polyamide 11 global production capacities. Arkema’s Rilsan® Polyamide 11 coatings were found to have three times the abrasion resistance of competing coatings solutions based on a custom designed abrasion test conducted by the Fisher Company, an approved coating applicator of Rilsan® Polyamide 11, also known as Rilsan® Fine Powders.

Nile Polymers Inc., located in Centerville, UT, has recently commercialized a series of cable tie sizes based on Arkema Inc.’s Kynar Flex® PVDF under the trademark Strong-Ty™. These injection molded cable ties are readily available in 4-inch and 8-inch lengths and are manufactured and packaged in a clean room following ISO 13485:2016 procedures. Strong-Ty™ cable tie flexibility can be tailored simply by changing the chosen grade of Kynar Flex® PVDF.
